The NoVA 14U AA Girls team competed at the Southeast District Tournament held at Ashburn and Reston March 16-18. NoVA 14U beat Team Carolina 8-1, lost to the Florida Lady Bulldogs 4-3 in a shootout, beat the Raleigh Jr. Hurricanes 8-0 and lost in the championship game to the Florida Lady Bulldogs 6-3. NoVA 14U was awarded an at large bid to compete in the USA Hockey National Championships which will be held at The New England Sports Center in Marlborough, MA, April 4-9. The NoVA 19U Girls, who swept their age group at the district tournament will also attend.
The NoVA 19U AA Girls team won the USA Hockey Southeastern District Tournament Championship this past weekend with a 6-1 win over the Potomac Patriots. The 19U team advances to the USA Hockey National Championships being held this year in Marlborough, Massachusetts April 4-9. The NoVA 19s outscored their opponents 28-1 in their three Pool Play victories prior to the Championship Game defeating the Carolina Eagles 15-1, Potomac 5-0 and the Nashville Flyers 8-0.
The NoVA 19U AA Girls completed their undefeated season in the CBHL 19U Girls Division by beating the Reston Raider 19s 6-1 in the Championship Game this past Sunday. The NoVA 19s gave up just two goals in the CBHL Playoffs. One goal to Reston and one goal to the Carolina Eagles. With a perfect regular season record of 12-0-0, NoVA netted 70 goals while giving up just 11. The NoVA 19U AA Girls are the Regular Season Champions finishing at the top of the CBHL 19U Girls Division.
Both the Nova Girls 14U AA and 16U AA Girls Teams participated in the USA Hockey National Championships in Troy Michigan April 5 - 10. All the Nova families, players and coaches had a great experience at the 5 day event.
After Pool Play, both Nova teams were ranked 1st in their respective pools and brackets with the 14s being ranked 4th overall and the 16s ranked 3rd overall. The Nova 14s lost to the Steel City Selects 2-1 in a shootout but won their next two games against the Troy Lady Sting 6-0 and the Black Cats from Wisconsin (14U Division runner-up) 1-0. The 16s beat the Steel City Selects 4-1, the Troy Lady Sting 7-2 and the Wisconsin Selects 3-2 in shootout.
In the quarterfinal matchup, the 14U team lost a hard fought battle to the eventual Bronze Medalist, the Kensington Valley Ravens from Michigan.
The Nova 16s lost their quarterfinal matchup to the eventual Gold Medalist, the 2017 16U AA National Champions from Alaska, the Anchorage North Stars.
We look forward to the 2018 USA Hockey National Championships which will be held in Marlborough, MA April 5 - 9, 2018.
The Nova Girls 16U AA team won the 19U A Division of the PonyTail Tournament held in Laurel Maryland March 17-19. In this Division was the Reston Raiders 19s, the Nova 19s and the Washington Pride 16s. The two Nova teams met twice in the Tourney, once in Round Robin play where the Nova 16s won 4-1 and then in a well balanced Championship Game where the Nova 16 again prevailed with a 2-0 win. As the Southeastern District 16U Champion, the Nova Girls 16U AA team will be one of (12) 16U Tier II girls teams participating in the USA Hockey National Championships in Troy Michigan April 5 - 10.
The Nova Girls 14U AA team won the 19U B/16U A Division of the PonyTail tournament held in Laurel Maryland March 17-19. In the Championship game Nova 14U AA beat the Washington Pride 14U Major 3-2. In Round Robin play, Nova beat Navy 19U 3-1, tied Washington Pride Major 1-1 and beat Team Carolina 16U 4-0. It was the 5th title earned by the 14U AA team for the 2016-2017 season. As the Southeastern District Champion, Nova will be one of (12) 14U Tier II girls teams participating in the USA Hockey National Championships in Troy Michigan April 5 - 10.
