As many of you know, one of our former Ice Dogs players, Lucas Soto, was diagnosed with leukemia a few weeks ago. Lucas played for our club from Mites through Pee Wees and his younger sister, Addison, also played Mites last season.

Our club would like to show support to the Soto family throughout Lucas's journey to health. September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month and the color orange represents Leukemia specifically. This weekend we are encouraging our skaters to tape their sticks orange to support this cause and Lucas.

Additionally, fellow Ice Dog player Jack Richey has designed a #5 Strong bracelet for Lucas.  We will be selling the bracelets for $5 each.  All proceeds will go to the Soto Family to defray costs associated with Lucas's medical care.  Click this link https://forms.gle/vM4AEiRcqQEGaKXa6 to order your bracelet. Cash payment will be due upon delivery. You will be contacted once the bracelets arrive to pick them up at the Mount Vernon rink at a to be arranged time.

Lucas continues to be optimistic and can't wait to get back to hockey.  He is encouraged by hearing from his friends and teammates.  In order to help keep his spirits lifted, the Ice Dogs will be collecting cards, notes and letters for Lucas throughout his treatment.  The Richey Family has graciously offered to collect cards for Lucas in a box on their front porch.  If you'd like to drop something off for Lucas, please put them in the box located at:

 2201 Paul Spring Pkwy

Alexandria, VA 22308

(Please note that this is in Hollin Hall--corner of Paul Spring Parkway and Bainbridge Road. Tan house with a  red door.)

The Soto Family has been overwhelmed by the support of their hockey family. Many people have asked if they can help by bringing meals for the family.  At this time, Lucas is following a strict cancer protocol diet.  However, gift cards for Uber Eats and GrubHub are greatly appreciated for the times when the family is stuck at the hospital or clinic. At this time Lucas is not taking visitors, but he is hopeful that his doctors will clear him to see friends soon.  In the mean time, the Soto Family has designated Megan Gianchetta with the Ice Dogs and Michelle MacDonald with The St. James as their liaisons. If you have any questions or want to get in touch with Phil, Dena, Lucas or Addison, please contact Megan via email at mgianchetta@gmail.com
