NORTHERN VIRGINIA ICE DOGS GOALIE POLICY

GOALS

The Northern Virginia Ice Dogs (NOVA) hockey program is dedicated to encouraging, developing, and producing skilled goalies for all club programs through goalie-specific training that addresses the needs of both beginning and experienced goaltenders.

Guidelines

NOVA will provide age specific training and skill development for our goalies.

At the U8 level, coaches will encourage and expose as many players as possible to the goalie position. All players interested in trying the goaltender position will get an opportunity to do so through practice and team play.

At the U10 level, the development of strong skating skills is very important and all goalies will be encouraged to continue their skating development through opportunities to participate as a skater and a goalie.

At the Squirts through Midget level, NOVA will continue goalie development with skill-based teaching through the team coaches and Goalie Skill Sessions.
